Hearing aid clinic at Berwick safe, health chiefs tell Beith

December 10, 2007 2:15 PM

Berwick's Lib Dem MP Alan Beith has heard from several residents that the Hearing Aid Clinic at Berwick Infirmary was to close - but health chiefs have confirmed that there is no truth in the rumour.

Alan Beith said

"I was very concerned that those who use the clinic, especially the elderly, were being told that the clinic might be closing and that they would have to travel to Newcastle for hearing aid services.

"I have checked this story with Northumbria Trust managers, who are responsible for hospital services. They insist that they have no intention of ending the clinic. I have asked them to make sure that this is cleared up once and for all, as it is causing many people to worry unnecessarily. I have made it plain to the Trust that it would not be acceptable for people to have to travel to Newcastle for this service, and the hospital trust agrees."

If you are a resident of the Berwick-upon-Tweed constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
