Beith backs calls for Farepak compensation one year after company's collapse

December 10, 2007 2:30 PM

One year on from the collapse of hamper company Farepak, Alan Beith MP is backing a House of commons motion calling for compensation for those who are still waiting for financial help, along with new legislation to ensure a similar collapse cannot happen in the future.

Alan Beith said

"Many families throughout the Berwick constituency had a miserable Christmas in 2006 after the collapse of Farepak. They have not received any compensation, and many are still struggling to pay off debt taken on in the immediate aftermath of the crisis.

"I believe that the customers who had paid in to the company in good faith are entitled to justice and that those responsible for the company's failure should be held to account.

"The Government needs to publish its report into what went wrong at Farepak and bring in legislation to protect customers who pay in money to build up credit."

If you live in the Berwick constituency and have been affected by the Farepak collapse and are still waiting for compensation, Mr Beith would like to hear from you - please write to him with your name and address, full details of the amount you lost, the name and address of the agent and send copies of any supporting documents you have. You can use the new Freepost address:

Freepost RRLJ-RKST-YYCJ, Alan Beith MP, 54 Bondgate Within, Alnwick NE66 1JD.

If you are a resident of the Berwick-upon-Tweed constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
