Berwick MP Alan Beith has been working hard to resolve the crisis over proposed GP budget cuts in Northumberland, and has given a cautious welcome to the news that revised officers have now been made to all the GP practices in Northumberland - and his offices in Alnwick and at Westminster have been inundated with letters, emails and calls from concerned Northumberland residents who are concerned about the proposed budget cuts facing GP practices.
Alan Beith said
"Before Christmas I had several meetings with doctors, nurses and practice managers, and raised the situation in Parliament with Alan Johnson, the Secretary of State for Health
"I met Chris Reed, the Chief Executive of the Northumberland Care Trust, and Sir Peter Carr, the Chairman of the Strategic Health Authority for the North East.
"The GP practices have all been sent revised contract offers by Northumberland care Trust and I am waiting to see if these revised offers deal with the specific points raised by GPs and constituents about the special needs of rural areas, and the services which GPs in rural areas offer which are provided by hospitals in urban areas.
"I will hold a further meeting with the Northumberland Care Trust later this month"
