Sir Alan Beith MP, Fiona Hall MEP and Cllr Jeff Reid welcome Nick Clegg MP, Leader of the Liberal Democrats, to Alnwick in Northumberland.

Nick Clegg MP, Leader of the Liberal Democrats, recently visited Alnwick as the guest of honour at a dinner held to mark the 35th anniversary of Sir Alan Beith election as MP for Berwick upon Tweed. Over eighty people attended the dinner at the Costelloe Centre in Bailiffgate including Fiona Hall MEP, Leader of Northumberland County Council and several other Northumberland County Councillors.

Nick Clegg made a humourous and inspiring speech in which he paid tribute to the hard work Sir Alan has done in his 35 years as MP for Berwick upon Tweed and how he had been struck by the high regard in which Alan is held throughout the north east. Sir Alan Beith thanked Nick Clegg for visiting the north east as it is too often forgotten about by other political parties. He thanked everyone who organised the annual dinner and presented Nick with a copy of his book "A View From The North".

Alan Beith also spoke about the future of the Berwick upon Tweed constituency and said how much he is looking forward to fighting the next general election.

Alan Beith said

"It was a real pleasure to have Nick Clegg as the guest speaker at our annual dinner and to see so many friends, helpers and supporters together. A fantastic night was had by all thanks to the hard work of Jan Robotham and Eileen Blakey and the other volunteers."

The count down has already started for the 36th annual dinner in the autumn of 2009.

If you are a resident of the Berwick-upon-Tweed constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
