Sir Alan Beith, Liberal Democrat MP for the Berwick upon Tweed constituency, has expressed his hopes that trade will stay in our towns if no buyer is found for Woolworths and the stores are forced to close their doors.
Alan Beith said
"Berwick, Alnwick and Morpeth, like towns all over the country, will suffer badly from the collapse of Woolworths, not least because of the jobs it provides.
"I hope that local retailers will be able to gain some of the trade which Woolworths has had to support their businesses and the jobs they provide."
Alan Beith is backing the "Keep It Local" campaign run by the Northumberland Gazette.
