Berwick Liberal Democrat Sir Alan Beith MP has backed the House of Commons Public Administration Committee in its demand for the Government to apologise and bring in a compensation scheme for the regulatory failure which has allowed so many people in Northumberland to lose a large part of their savings in Equitable Life.
Alan Beith said
"The Ombudsman's Report says that the Government should set up a compensation scheme. Despite the Prime Minister's personal promise to respond to this report before Christmas, Ministers have failed to do so. The whole integrity of the Ombudsman system is at stake as well as the pensions of many of my constituents."
Many people throughout the Berwick constituency have been affected by the problems with Equitable Life and have been in contact with Alan Beith.
