Harbour commissioners in Amble took the opportunity to show local MP Sir Alan Beith the severe impact of last September's floods when they met at the harbour last week.
Despite emergency repairs, one stretch of the quayside is out of commission and this has led to the removal of fuel stores and the temporary closure of the ice plant.
Sir Alan Beith said
"The Harbour Commissioners are working very hard to maintain the port and I hope that the funds for a full repair can be found from the European Fisheries Fund and other sources.
"The Environment Agency have ruled out help for the harbour as the work would not be classed as flood protection. I have taken this case up with the Minister as the harbour is important for fishing and leisure in the Amble area and I will keep up efforts to secure this vital funding.
Alan Beith has also has a meeting with the Environment Minister and raised issues including future policy on flood protection and the effects of flooding on agriculture, as well as emphasising concerns over the electronic tagging system for sheep.
