Sir Alan Beith MP swapped his suit for wellies, white coat and hairnet when he paid a visit to Northumberland Foods Limited in Amble last week to meet the new management team and speak to employees following the successful take over of the former Cheviot Foods plant and business.
Alan Beith toured the potato processing plant and spoke to some of the workforce, all of whom were very pleased that the factory is continuing to operate.
Alan Beith said
"Keeping production going at the plant is vital for the local economy and has meant that nearly 200;jobs have been saved. If we had lost this major employer the impact would have been devastating and many people have worked extremely hard to sort out the sale of the business and keep things going.
"I am pleased to have been able to help over the last few difficult months and hope the business will go from strength to strength."
Alan Beith discussed several issues with the management team and will be working with One North East and Fiona Hall MEP to look for further ways to support this major employer.
