National Express senior management have insisted, at a meeting with Sir Alan Beith, M.P. that their rail services from Berwick and Alnmouth will not face cuts when the new East Coast timetable is agreed, and that additional stops and faster journey times should be achieved.
Sir Alan arranged the meeting with National Express Deputy Managing Director Susan Goldsmith because the East Coast timetable is being redesigned. He also raised the parking problem at both Alnmouth and Berwick, disabled access at Alnmouth, and concerns about cuts in train catering services.
Sir Alan comments:
"The recession is reducing the numbers on trains, but there is scope for attracting new passengers at Berwick and Alnmouth if there are more trains stopping."
