Alnwick Schools to be debated in Westminster

July 20, 2009 11:15 AM

Sir Alan Beith, Liberal Democrat MP for Berwick upon Tweed, has secured a debate on Schools in Alnwick for tomorrow, Tuesday 21 July 2009 at 1300 in Westminster Hall.

The debate will focus on the continuing problems with the buildings at the Duchess Community High School in Alnwick and the delay to plans for a new 3-19 learning campus caused by the economic situation.

Alan Beith said

"We have a new Minister following the latest reshuffle and I will be pressing him to come and visit the Alnwick school as soon as possible - his predecessor promised to come and see for himself but let us all down by failing to do so.

"Alnwick desperately needs new school buildings and I am continuing to push for government support on this issue. The County Council have said that this is their educational priority but have no funds for capital projects because of the economic situation, and our students in Alnwick should not be penalised because of this."

If you are a resident of the Berwick-upon-Tweed constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
