Vince Cable MP is to speak at the Liberal Democrats' annual dinner in Alnwick on 17 October 2009.

Sir Alan Beith MP is to welcome Dr Vince Cable MP, the Liberal Democrats' Treasury Spokesman, as the guest speaker at the Liberal Democrats' annual dinner, which takes place on Saturday 17 October 2009 at St James's Church Centre in Alnwick.

Sir Alan said

"Vince Cable has consistently spoken out about the problems facing our economy due to high levels of personal debts and called on the government to nationalise Northern Rock at the start of the financial crisis. His outstanding contribution was recognised when he was named the Citizens Advice Bureau Politician of the Year.

"It will be a pleasure to welcome him to Alnwick and to hear him speak."

In a Populus poll for The Times recently, Vince Cable was voted the most trusted of 12 leading politicians, especially by Conservative voters who have more faith in him than they have in George Osborne, their own Shadow Chancellor. This reflects his high profile during the credit crunch, when he was praised across party lines.

If you would like tickets for the Liberal Democrats' dinner, please call the Constituency Office on 01665 602901. Tickets cost £25 and include a welcome drink and entry into a prize draw as well as your meal. Vegetarian meals are available if pre-booked.

If you are a resident of the Berwick-upon-Tweed constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
