Sir Alan Beith MP has added his name to a House of Commons motion in support of the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal. The appeal, which raises money and awareness for ex-servicemen and women, is a vital source of income for the Royal British legion which last year spent £88 million carrying out work among the serving and ex-service community last year.
Sir Alan said
"Wearing a poppy and supporting the appeal lets us show our gratitude to members of the armed services both past and present.
"With present commitments demanding more of our armed forces, we see repeated evidence of severe overstretch, shortages in essential equipment and a desperate need for essential expenditure as a matter of urgency. I hope that this year's Poppy Appeal will remind the Government of our duty to provide support and care for armed forces personnel and their families, both at home and abroad, as well as our veterans."
