Alnwick's school buildings still under spotlight, says Beith

November 9, 2009 4:30 PM

Liberal Democrat MP for Berwick-upon-Tweed Sir Alan Beith has had further discussions with the Schools Minister. The Minister is ensuring Whitehall staff look into possible solutions for Alnwick after visiting the Duchess Community High School. A few weeks ago the Minister saw for himself the poor state of repair and problems faced by students and staff due to the age and condition of the buildings. The situation is made worse by the school being on a split site.

Sir Alan Beith said

"I have had further discussions with the Minister who is ensuring that officers look into whether it is at all possible to get academy funding for Alnwick, which would enable new school buildings to be built.

"I will continue to keep him up-to-date about the school buildings issues in Alnwick and hope he will be able to help us.

"I am pleased that the issue of school buildings is being kept under the spotlight at the Department for Children, Schools and Families."
