Beith backs Elsdon 's bid to stay in Rothbury division of County Council

December 1, 2009 2:45 PM

Sir Alan Beith MP has written to the Boundary Commission to add his voice to calls for Elsdon to remain in the Rothbury division of Northumberland.

A Boundary Review is currently under way and suggestions have been made that Elsdon should be moved to the Longhorsley division. But Elsdon Parish Council is fighting against this move and Sir Alan has also spoken out against the proposed change.

Sir Alan said

"Elsdon is remote but it has long-established links with Coquetdale. As well as long-standing local government links when Elsdon was part of the old Alnwick District, the village shares a GP practice with residents in the Coquet valley and takes part in the community forum for Coquetdale, as well as being inside the National Park.

"I hope the Boundary Committee will recognise how unreasonable it is to create a very artificial division linking Elsdon to Longhorsley."

If you are a resident of the Berwick-upon-Tweed constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
