The Royal Bank of Scotland has assured Berwick's Liberal Democrat MP Sir Alan Beith that the town's branch is not on the closure list.
Worried constituents had contacted the MP amid fears that the town's RBS branch was to shut, and Sir Alan immediately contacted the Chief Executive of the bank. In a reply to Sir Alan, RBS have said that "it is very much business as usual at the RBS branch in Berwick."
Sir Alan Beith said
"I think RBS should have made it clear from the start that its Berwick branch had never been part of the Nat West network and was never on the list of branches to be sold off.
"Many customers of the Berwick branch, despite their concerns about the way RBS as a whole was mismanaged, have a high regard for the local branch and would not be happy to see it sold to a different owner."
