Beith's campaign interrupted by labour - as baby grand-daughter arrives ahead of schedule!

Alan Beith's election campaigning for the Liberal Democrats was interrupted by a dash to the Borders General Hospital where his daughter Caroline gave birth on Wednesday night to a 7lb 11oz daughter, Ellie, a sister for five year old Scott.

Sir Alan was just about to speak to an election audience in support of Durham Lib Dem candidate Carol Woods when news came through that the new arrival was imminent, and by the time he had made the speech and got to the hospital, the baby had arrived.

Mother and baby are well and dad Iain and all the family are delighted.
